A local business has released a statement following a recent incident in Crossfield, in which a car drove into the local park, Veterans Park causing damage to trees. 

Homes by Creation, the local home builder released the statement on social media, apologizing for what happened, adding that it took full responsibility for the entirety of the situation.

Earlier this week, The Town of Crossfield also commented on the incident. In a social media post on Monday afternoon, The Town stated that on Friday, June 21, a motorized vehicle gained unauthorized access to Veteran’s Park, which resulted in a significant amount of damage to Town property, including the destruction of multiple mature trees.

"While the property damage is significant, we are grateful that there were no Veteran’s Peace Park visitors directly involved or injured during the incident," the post stated.

The Town added that RCMP are engaged and are undertaking the investigation and associated processes.

"The safety of our residents is our utmost priority, and we are committed to supporting the investigation in all manners necessary. An added priority for the Town is the appropriate repairs to Veteran’s Park to restore it to its original condition."

Town Administration is working with its internal staff, external parties, and applicable insurance providers to address this component in as timely a manner as possible.

Airdrie RCMP confirmed that a 70-year-old Calgary resident was facing charges as a result of the incident on Friday.

According to police, on Friday, June 21, at approximately 6:00 p.m., Airdrie Rural RCMP responded to a report of an impaired driver in the town of Crossfield.

"The report arose from a vehicle having travelled through the Veteran’s Peace Park. There was significant damage to trees within the park caused by the vehicle," police stated.

The 70-year-old has been charged with Failing to Obey a Stop Sign, Careless Driving, Failing to Remain at a collision, and refusing to provide a breath sample.
