The first-ever Airdrie CultureFest was a massive hit at Nose Creek Park on Canada Day.

Airdries first-ever multicultural festival showcased Airdronians from all walks of life and the wide variety of cultures we celebrate in the city. Kimberley Glass, the team lead for Airdrie CultureFest shared some of the countries that were represented on Monday:

  • Haiti,
  • Jamaica,
  • South Korea
  • Philippines
  • Norway
  • Nigeria
  • Ghana
  • Guyana

"There was a very long list of countries represented. Those attending were from different places and they wanted to see their own cultures too. So, we've not only celebrated as many as we could this year, but we have a lot that we can do next year."

St. Lucia-born soca artist, producer, and songwriter, Motto, was the headliner of the performance portion at the event. There was also a special guest who made an appearance, that caught everybody by surprise.

"The Mayor (Peter Brown) came out and Alberta Premier Danielle Smith came to visit. We quickly on the fly had to change our programming just to reflect who was here and who could talk about us."

Glass was happy to see that tons of Airdronians came out to support the event.

"If I had to guess, probably like 2000 people were in the park, maybe more. Where all the performances were taking place, there was not a lot of room left for people to watch."

Glass wanted to thank everybody who helped make this event possible as it was community funded. With the event being such a success, she confirmed that the Airdrie CultureFest will be back next year.

"It was a special event and I can't wait for it to happen again next year!"
