Earlier this month, the City of Airdrie announced a new skate park on the east side of the city.

Jeff Hughes, Parks Operation Coordinator with the City of Airdrie is excited to see another skate park in Airdrie at the Ron Ebbesen Arena.

"Our contractor installed a portable skate park in the parking lot. It will be on location until the Monday of September long weekend."

According to Hughes, they have heard multiple requests to add a park to the east side of the city. The other skate park is located at Chinook Winds Park.

"We will evaluate where it is currently located near the end of the season and then decide if it should be moved for next season or stay in the same spot."

Here are some of the rules when using the park, according to the City of Airdrie:

  • Protective helmets are mandatory and elbow pads and knee pads are recommended
  • Do not use the skate park in icy or wet conditions
  • BMX riders - Park pegs are required
  • Respect the facility, respect others and be careful.

According to Hughes, a number of young Airdroinans have taken advantage of the new park.

"So far the feedback has been generally positive on the ramps over there."

The skate park is open daily until 10 p.m.
